Year of Professor
On November 16th 2011, four days after Silvio Berlusconi's resignation Mario Monti, nicknamed as "Professor" in Italy, became Italy's prime minister and started leading a technocratic government which was supposed to last until Italy's next parlamentary elections in 2013 and above all lead Italy out of economic crisis. During whole 2012 Italy continued struggling with economic problems. On December 8th 2012 Mr Monti pre-announced his resignation. He resigned on December 21st 2012, two months before Italy's elections.
in the photo: On August 1st 2012, still in office, Mr Monti met with Finnish Prime Minister Jyrki Katainen in order to discuss EU's economic situation and the relationship between Finland and Italy. Mr Monti (left) and Mr Katainen arrived at the press conference after the talks and a lunch in different moods; Mr Katainen was clearly confident and in a good mood, Mr Monti was more pensive.
